There are many things to say about how this pandemic has affected us, but one of the great things to come of it was TikTok. As our social lives plummeted, as well as our professional lives, a lot of people spent their time with their eyes focused on the screens of their computers and their phones. TikTok was the application that most social media users were on daily.

Tiktok offers a constant stream of videos that are on average 15 seconds long and have taken over the internet. With many videos appearing on Instagram, Twitter, and even WhatsApp.

Recently, food-related content has been a hot topic on the app. Here are some of the most famous trends on peoples For You Pages (FYP).

1. Taki Cream Cheese Jalapeño

If you like spicy snacks then this treat that combines a fiery crunch with a cold classic spread is definitely for you.

The name of this trend speaks for itself. The ingredients needed for this TikTok favourite are simple; fresh jalapeño, cream cheese, and Takis. All you need to do is cut the top of the jalapeño, remove the seeds, stuff the pepper with cream cheese, insert about two or three Takis inside, and then enjoy.

2. Tortilla Sandwich Hack

This tortilla trend exploded on TikTok and has everyone around the world folding their tortillas in this unusual way. With the tortilla hack, one large tortilla is taken, and a cut is made in the middle to just about halfway. Each section is topped with a different ingredient before finally being folded and eaten. The meat or veggies usually covers the first section, followed by burrito sauce or any sauce of choice, then some crisp vegetables, and finally the staple in every sandwich, cheese.

3. Feta Pasta Trend

If you’re a devoted TikTok user or just a casual consumer, you’ve probably heard about the baked feta pasta trend. The recipe calls for cherry tomatoes, olive oil, salt, and pepper and a block of feta cheese in a baking dish baked at 400℉ for 35 minutes. While it is baking, you cook your pasta on the stove, and when it comes out, you add garlic, fresh basil and give it a mix. Afterwards, add the cooked pasta on top of the mixture and give it a mix once again.

4. Accordion Potatoes

This next trend creates delicious crispy accordion potatoes. Get a couple of potatoes, peel them, and then cut off the ends to shape them into a rectangle. After this, people usually use chopsticks as it makes the following step easier. Place the two chopsticks horizontally on either side of the potato and cut thin strips vertically until your knife reaches the chopstick. Then flip it over and do the same on the other side, but cut in diagonally. Next, put the potato on a skewer and spread it out a little to reveal the beautiful pattern. Mix oil with the preferred seasonings and brush it on both sides of the potato. Then bake it at 425℉ until crispy, which is usually for 15-20 minutes on each side. Enjoy!

5. Breakfast Sandwich Trend

This TikTok hack makes creating a breakfast sandwich easy for a very complex meal. I have watched countless videos recreating this hack and this is how it goes; whisk two eggs in a bowl and pour it into a pan over medium heat. Dip the two slices of bread into the mixture and then flip them and place them down in the pan. When the eggs are finally cooked flip the eggs so that they are now on top. Fold the edges of the egg onto the bread and then flip one slice onto the other.

6. Easy Crème Brûlée

This TikTok trend makes a normally complex recipe fairly easy with just 3 ingredients: vanilla ice cream, eggs, and sugar. The only required machinery for this is a microwave, stovetop, and oven. Melt the vanilla ice cream in the microwave, and then add one egg and whisk it all together. After this pour it into a ramekin bowl before baking at 325℉. When baking add hot water into a baking tray until it comes up half an inch high on the bowls, and then leave them to bake for 40 to 50 minutes. After they are done store them in the fridge for two hours. When they are cooled down, caramelize the sugar on the stovetop and drizzle it over.

7. Nature’s Cereal

This simple recipe and the nutritious fruits involved will make everyone happy. Pour some coconut water into a bowl with ice and combine it with a handful of strawberries, blueberries and blackberries and pomegranates.

8. Oreo Mug Cake

This moist and fluffy recipe will definitely have you asking why you didn’t make it sooner. (Taylor/hip2save)

This recipe is usually completed in a minute and only requires 2 ingredients. First, put 8 Oreo cookies into a mug and fill it up with milk until a bit below the halfway mark of the Oreo cookies, and proceed to then use a fork or spoon to mash the cookies. After this is done, place it into the microwave for a minute and 15 seconds, give or take another 15 to 30 seconds. Let the mixture solidify for about a minute before indulging in this dense and “brownie” nature dessert.

9. Whipped Hot Cocoa

This recipe will have you wishing it was winter again (Lauren/MidgetMomma)

Whipped Hot Cocoa is perfect for a cold day, and honestly whenever you’re craving chocolate. This simple recipe can be completed with again, just 3 ingredients: heavy whipping cream, hot cocoa mix, and warm milk. In a bowl whisk whipping cream until it gains a thicker consistency and forms soft peaks. After this add the hot cocoa powder and keep mixing until the cream is whipped. Fill a mug two-thirds of the way with warm milk, and use a spoon to mix the creamy hot cocoa blend with the milk.

10. Dr. Pepper Recipe

This healthy zero calorie hack will have you craving this mocktail all the time.

(Trisha/SaltySideDish)

This two-ingredient recipe starts off with adding mineral water or sparkling water to a glass. Next add just a little bit of Mio, the flavoured liquid beverage mix, and continue adding the Black Cherry mix until satisfied. Swirl this concoction because if you shake it, it might explode. Pour over ice and enjoy
