The Marquee: Cabana’s Waterfront Patio Transformed

Under the order of strict public health guidelines and regulations, Cabana Waterfront Patio has switched from their usual fun-in-the-sun pool bar to a warm dinner and show under a tent, the Marquee.

When I arrived at the restaurant, there was construction and I thought that I had given the Uber driver the wrong address until I noticed signs pointing in the direction of a red carpet.

After being greeted at the entrance, I was asked to complete a mobile COVID-19 questionnaire and contact tracing. I was then guided by a host to the entrance of Marquee which is accessed through the Rebel nightclub – the indoor and vast club that is typically offered by Ink Entertainment.

Upon entering the restaurant, I was met with purple and red LED lighting that bathed the restaurant in a warm glow, enhanced by the heating lamp’s bright red flames.

Though my reservation was made at the last minute, I was seated right away and offered hot and sweet apple cider.

The tent was pleasantly warm, there was no need to keep a jacket on during dinner – so yes, you can show off your outfit. Menus were laminated which was a personal first, considering most restaurants have transitioned to the use of QR menus. 

There were multiple people circulating around the area, mainly waitresses and security guards. It was odd at first because it felt like hovering, but it seemed to be for the purpose of maintaining quick and efficient customer service. 

The ground was shaky, I could feel every time someone walked by the table, which was quite often and got distracting but you can get used to the slight movements after a couple of minutes. 

Our waitress was kind and answered all of our questions. When we changed our drink order, she was able to switch it with no apparent hassle. The atmosphere was classy and there was soft music playing throughout the night, making it easy to hear your friends across the table.

Food & Pricing

Pan Roasted Salmon: $30                               Steak Frites: $32

The salmon came with ancient grain pilaf, wilted greens, lemon, and béarnaise sauce — a traditional French sauce made of emulsified butter, egg yolks, white wine vinegar, and herbs. The salmon was well done and I enjoyed the rice. 

The steak came with thick-cut fries and a savory truffle aïoli. The portion for the steak seemed small at first but with the sides as accompaniment, it was filling. While the fries were good but honestly nothing special. I was not the biggest fan of the truffle aïoli, but overall it was a good meal. 

This experience was fun but would personally not become a frequent, monthly tradition. Being a student, the prices were just too high for me, but that’s The Marquee. You do not visit for a quick and cheap meal, but for an overall experience. You go for the classy atmosphere and in the summer, the amazing view overlooking the city that lights up the night sky.
